We had lunch here. We have been to many fish restaurants in Portugal also in Sesimbra. The fish soup was fantastic. But the grilled fish was average. I think is... read more was not fresh. We had a bad red wine that we left in the glasses. Service was friendly. The bill for two persons was 70 euro. That was to much for a lunch. There are better fish restaurants in Sesimbra. And they are cheaper.
The owner literally grabbed us off the street as we were browsing for a restaurant, very friendly and endearing Man and spoke some English. We had one of the famous... read more fish dishes of Portuguese cuisine, Arroz de tamboril, which is an 'all in one pot' Monkfish with rice in a tomato sauce, with clams and large prawns. This is a dish meant for two, but we are two greedy guys and we couldn't finish it. This will easily be enough for 3 people or even more. It was fantastic, completely worthy of its reputation, we absolutely loved it. There are menus in Portuguese, English, French and I am not sure but think in Spanish too. The restaurant is very busy all the time and being large it gets very noisy, something to consider if you are looking for a quick quiet meal, maybe best to go somewhere else. The service was very attentive and fluent in English. This is probably one of the most expensive restaurants in Sesimbra but still affordable and it's a must to try at least once. Try to get seats on the first floor, the terrace has beautiful views or the marina, beach and sea.
Actually I’m not a huge fan of touristic places here in Portugal, but have to say that O Velho e o Mar surprised me. Food was exceptional.
We previously visited in 2019, and were looking forward to our visit. We have been twice during this stay, and both have delivered excellent food.
Last night with a... read more reservation was even better, a fantastic table with views of the bay.
The staff are incredibly helpful, especially the waitress with blonde hair!
The portions are huge, so sharing is definitely the way to go, we had 3 mains and a starter between 4, alongside bread, olives and cheese.
Had a lovely meal last night and the evening was made especially nice due to the bubbly and enthusiastic Katerina…..what a wonderful person
We would return just to be served... read more by her !
We had dinner there once.
Well located in front of the sea.
Overpriced for the food, you are paying for the location. And the service was confusing. It looked that... read more there were no order and the waiters were working as they were walking through the room. The food was slow (it took us 20 min to get fresh oyster), later came the plates for the food, but no silverware. Once the food arrived we had to ask for the silverware and napkins. It was very random service and the food is not that good to overcome the service.
