Restaurant at an excellent location with a sea view in a beautiful village.
Great ambiance with background music not interfering with normal conversation.
Staff with good mood and very attentive... read more although the restaurant was full in a sunny Sunday.
But the tour the force is actually the food. Every plate we saw served had great presentation and looked very tasteful. We had for main course the typical "caldeirada à pescador" (traditional fish stew) which was delicious. Very good and original entrees. The deserts are based on traditional Portuguese conventual patisserie with a modern twist, all looking very good. Just tried two of them, because no more space was available in the stomach.
Price is well adjusted, paid 67€ for 3 people.
All in all a great display of Portuguese food at a great location and with professional and attentive service.
We had dinner there once.
Well located in front of the sea.
Overpriced for the food, you are paying for the location. And the service was confusing. It looked that... read more there were no order and the waiters were working as they were walking through the room. The food was slow (it took us 20 min to get fresh oyster), later came the plates for the food, but no silverware. Once the food arrived we had to ask for the silverware and napkins. It was very random service and the food is not that good to overcome the service.
Is unacceptable not to wait 20sec. for me and my 90 year old mother, to move to the entrance after the owner called our name. Table was given to another... read more couple without any hesitation. When I say 20sec, I believe it was even less. Unbelievable. After that situation is expected that the next table was given to you, but no. Only after a single table was free we managed to get a table. When the clams arrived to the table, were full of butter witch ruined the 1st. dish, and just Catarina (waitress) seams to care about. Fish was ok, but it took so long to be prepared, that it just got cold at the table. I just felt unwelcome there, and it was by far the worst lunch experience of my vacations so far.
We previously visited in 2019, and were looking forward to our visit. We have been twice during this stay, and both have delivered excellent food.
Last night with a... read more reservation was even better, a fantastic table with views of the bay.
The staff are incredibly helpful, especially the waitress with blonde hair!
The portions are huge, so sharing is definitely the way to go, we had 3 mains and a starter between 4, alongside bread, olives and cheese.
Simply put - one of the best meals I had in a while, probably worthy of a Michelin star, but who am I to judge. I will just come back... read more to try some more of the delicious meals on the menu.
Had a lovely meal last night and the evening was made especially nice due to the bubbly and enthusiastic Katerina…..what a wonderful person
We would return just to be served... read more by her !
Actually I’m not a huge fan of touristic places here in Portugal, but have to say that O Velho e o Mar surprised me. Food was exceptional.
